Lyrics Come to Life with Spontuneous + Giveaway!
Spontuneous – (spon-TUNE-ee-us) – Adj. – Acting on the natural tendency or impulse to burst into song.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love music and I love to sing. No one will ever tell you that I sing well, just that I do it often! So yes, you can say I have a natural tendency to burst into song. It’s not just me either; my whole family has been known to participate in kitchen concerts. When I heard about Spontuneous, “the game where lyrics come to life”, I knew we had to have it.
Playing Spontuneous is simple:
- One player (Tunesmith) says a word and the others race against each other and the clock to try and blurt out a 5-word portion of lyrics from any song containing the given Trigger-Word!
- The player who begins singing first gets to roll the dice and advance around the board! If nobody can sing a song, the Tunesmith must be able to back it up with a song of their own, or else they roll both dice and move backwards.
- As players advance around the board, certain spaces will require them to draw a Spontuneous Card and attempt the crazy challenge!
- Whoever reaches finish first and completes the final challenge wins the game!
Anyone can play! People of all ages can participate in a game of Spontuneous together. A trigger word can be found in so many different songs that it doesn’t matter if each player is a fan of a different genre of music; everyone will still be able to interact with each other. Can’t sing? Not a problem! In fact, being out of tune only makes for more silly excitement! This game definitely brings the family together for a great time.
While you’re having fun playing the game, Spontuneous is doing other things for you too. Playing Spontuneous will promote thinking/strategy, improve word association and memory recall skills, and encourage social interaction. It’s really a fantastic game; just look at all the awards they’ve earned:
- The National Parenting Council Seal of Approval (TNPC)
- PAL Award – Play Advances Language (awarded by a speech pathologist of 35 years)
- PTPA Seal of Approval – Parent Tested Parent Approved
- Dr. Toy’s Best Vacation Products Winner
- Creative Child Magazine’s Creative Toy Awards – 2011 Game of the Year
- Mom’s Choice – Gold Award
Spontuneous is great fun for the entire family, but if you’re looking to have some fun with just the grown ups, you’ll still want to pull this game out. My kids are still a little young for something like this, but we didn’t mind having an excuse to let the adults have some fun!
I particularly liked the Spontuneous card challenges you had to attempt when you landed on a treble clef, although I didn’t always like the card I drew. (See pic to the right.) Hey Spontuneous, I thought you said no talent was required for this? Hmmm? ☺
Whether you’re looking for an affordable way to spend an evening with your family or your friends (or both!), Spontuneous is sure to entertain everyone involved. Just a warning though, if you’re playing with me, you might want to bring ear plugs.
Win your own Spontuneous board game! Giveaway is open to US residents who are 18 and older. Ends 3/28/13. Good Luck!
A complimentary Spontuneous game was provided for review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.

We love family nights and anything we can do together as a family is awesome!!
I don’t know even what trigger word I would use first, I would want to try and make it funny and possibly hard, but with kids, lol, you have to try and keep it clean and more familiar, so I guess, sunshine;)
