What Daddy Did Today: A Father’s Bedtime Story Review & Giveaway
Weekdays in our home tend to follow a particular pattern. I wake up first (much earlier than I’d like to), and my husband follows shortly after. He gets himself ready and heads to the office all before the kids have woken up. When he comes home at night, he eats a quick dinner before reading them a bedtime story and putting them to sleep. So, the kids don’t get to see much of Daddy during the week, and they’re always curious about where he’s going, why he’s going there, and when he’ll be back. When I saw Walter Wally’s book, What Daddy Did Today, I knew it would be perfect for my family.
As the title suggests, What Daddy Did Today tells us all about what Daddy might be doing while he’s away from home. You’ll accompany him as he rescues a kitten, wrestles a dragon, and travels to outer space in a hot air balloon. His day is full of adventure and fun, but nothing is better than coming home to the child he loves. This book is both lively and touching, and if you’re sentimental like I am, you might want to have a tissue handy for when you reach the end.
Clearly, I’m a fan, but what about the rest of the family? They loved it! The colorful illustrations and fantastical storyline held the attention of my four year old and my two year old. Initially, we were worried that it was a bit too action-packed for a bedtime story, but the pace slows down sufficiently and is probably providing them with fanciful dream fodder. My husband was as touched as I was, and he’s so happy to have a book like this to add to our library. It makes his nightly storytime even more special.
What Daddy Did Today gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up from this mommy…and from Daddy! I just can’t say enough good things about it. It would make a wonderful gift for a child to present to his father or vice-versa. And I have some great news! According to the book jacket, there will also be a What Mommy Did Today book. Knowing something about what it’s like to be a mommy, I can only assume that story will be even more fun, and I eagerly await its release.
