Take Personal Protection Seriously with Sabre

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about personal safety. I live and work in safe areas, so it’s been easy for me to develop a sense of security that can be a bit deceiving, but the truth is that none of us are truly safe from all dangers, no matter where we go. And while some things are certainly beyond our control, that doesn’t mean we need to roll over and not protect ourselves. I take every precaution I can when I’m out and about, and one of those safety measures is making sure that I carry something like pepper spray whenever I can.

Speaking of pepper spray…no matter where you live, I bet you’re already familiar with Sabre products, because their pepper spray and other personal safety items are #1 in the world (yep – the entire world). I’ve always been a big fan of Sabre, so they’ve always been a go-to brand for me and I was happy when they offered to let us try out something new.

Sabre sent me their Pepper Gel Kit, which includes a container of pepper gel, a practice gel unit, and a target. Before I go any further, let me just say that I had never heard of pepper gel before trying this product. I’ve had pepper spray for years, but somehow the development and advancement of a gel had totally slipped by me.

Whether you go for a spray or a gel is totally up to your personal preference, but I’m really feeling positive about the gel. I think it offers quite a few advantages; for one thing, it shoots further than a traditional pepper spray (20% further), but more importantly, it’s a bit safer for the user. When you’re using a standard pepper spray, a little wind can cause blowback that may send the spray back onto you. With a gel, that risk is virtually eliminated, and that means you can also safely use this product indoors. It’s also a really bold color of reddish-orange, so you can see exactly where that gel is going. (It looks pretty scary, to be honest!).

As I mentioned, my kit came with a practice unit, which I absolutely love. Using any type of pepper product can be tricky, so I really like having the opportunity to practice and get familiar with the process. The practice gel is the same consistency, but obviously not dangerous, so you can use it for as much target practice as you’d like. Need a target? I’m definitely glad to have this new product on hand, and I even bought an extra one to keep at home.
