Studio-Quality, Volume-Limiting Headphones for Kids from Puro Sound Labs
It’s officially road trip season! Road trips are a lot of fun, but they can also be a bit of a headache when the kids start complaining about being in the car for too long. Headphones are a great way to make sure the kids can enjoy their own favorite movies and music while the adults get a bit of peace, but I’ve found that getting the right pair isn’t easy. Regular over-the-ear headphones are usually too big to work with younger children, and my kids don’t like the kind that go in your ear.
Even more important than fit is noise level; many headphones get very loud, and I don’t want to risk damaging their hearing in any way. You might not know that one in five teens suffer from some form of permanent hearing loss, which is a big increase from the numbers since the mid-1990s. Part of the problem is that kids often use headphones, and with so many brands focused on providing deep bass levels or louder volumes than their competitors, you end up with damaged hearing that can’t be repaired.
With this in mind, we were really excited to give PuroQuiet headphones a try. PuroQuiet are volume limiting headphones that also feature active noise cancellation (ANC).
PuroQuiet headphones prevent the volume from exceeding 85 dB, which is the level that experts consider to be a safe listening level for up to eight hours. They also have studio grade audio quality with patent-pending Puro Balanced Response curve (which means that studio grade sound with clear vocals and full bass all fit within the safe 85 dB volume limit).
I mentioned that they are active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones, which is something else I love. ANC blocks and makes background noise up to 22 dB quieter in addition to offering 82% noise isolation. This helps make the volume limit seem even stronger, and it also lets kids enjoy their media in the noisiest of environments. Not only that, it can help kids tune out noise even if they’re not listening to something, which is wonderful if your children get overwhelmed with audio sensory extremes.
As for the construction, they’re super sturdy and have a great, modern look. The ear cushions and headband are made from a soft leather, and the headband is adjustable to fit all head sizes comfortably. They’re incredibly lightweight (6 oz.) and don’t put undue pressure on kids’ heads.
These headphones also have Bluetooth technology, which means your kids can connect to any compatible source without frustrating cables getting in the way. They offer a whopping 22 hours of play time, or 16 hours with ANC. For comparison, I have a really good pair of Bluetooth headphones that only offer about 5 hours of play before the battery loses its charge. 22 hours is huge! They also feature a microphone, which means you could even use them as a listening and speaking device for phone calls.
PuroQuiet volume-limiting kids’ headphones come in grey, pink, and blue, so there are color options that your kids can have fun choosing.
Whether you’re planning a road trip or have kids who love using headphones at home, PuroQuiet is definitely the brand to try. Visit purosound.com to learn more about how these headphones are made and to grab a pair of your own. You can also find them on Amazon with Prime shipping.
