Smithsonian Discover & Young Explorer Books & Puzzles Review & Giveaway
The Smithsonian is one of those places that I hope everyone has a chance to see one day. Nothing compares to its many museums and learning centers, or to the look of wonder in a child’s eyes as they become a little scientist, naturalist, or explorer as they investigate and learn.
And even if a road trip to the Smithsonian is not in your budget this winter, you can still wow your little ones with the best of the museum without even leaving your home!
Through a collaboration with Silver Dolphin Books and Smithsonian curators, there are four new interactive book sets sure to please those curious kids who are fascinated with the world around them! Each book set comes affordably priced and attractively packaged with a fact book or fact cards, a large fold-out poster, and interactive activities like puzzles and paper airplanes.
Two of these creative sets are perfect for children 6 and older:
Smithsonian Young Explorers: Dinosaurs
This book set will take you back in time to experience life among the dinosaurs! The fact book teaches kids how we learn about dinosaurs, how they are classified, and which ones ruled the land. Kids will enjoy assembling a dinosaur floor puzzle and map. The set is packaged in a cool snap-shut suitcase. Your future paleontologist will be ready to go on a fossil hunt.
Smithsonian Young Explorers: Oceans, $18.95
This set will send young readers under the sea to experience life below the surface. The fact book covers ocean movement, pollution, marine life facts, and all the details about the cutest sea creatures (sea otters, anyone?). Once your future marine biologist is ready to dip a toe into the ocean, they can assemble the floor puzzle and take their map and snap-shut suitcase to the high seas.
The other two sets are geared for the 8 and older crowd:
Smithsonian Discover: Flight, $16.95
This is a close second to actually visiting the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space museum. The set is a guide to the history and science of flight, and will answer any questions your kids may have, like “What’s a sonic boom?” The set has hands-on activities just like the actual Smithsonian. There are fact cards, a poster, and paper airplanes in three different designs. Your future aviator will take flight right before your eyes.
Smithsonian Discover: Space, $16.95
This set takes readers on a journey into the furthest reaches of space with an engaging and informative guide to the universe. Organized as a virtual trip through space, your child will start at the edge of the expanding universe, venture into the Milky Way, and stop by our solar system to explore each planet in detail. Kids will enjoy fact cards and a poster, as well as glow-in-the-dark stars and planets to turn their room into outer space. Your future astronaut will be ready for launch.
With the holidays coming up, these Smithsonian box sets from Silver Dolphin Books could be the perfect fun and educational gift for your inquisitive children. You can purchase them directly from the links above, and you can also make a wish and enter the giveaway to win all four box sets!
Giveaway is open to US residents who are 18 and older. Ends 12/16/14. Good luck!

I love books of this nature for children. We had a big family of 9 so my Mom never read to us much so I love being able to read to my children when they were smaller so they learn about facts and important things like these books show. I love all the pictures too they are so bright and the children will really enjoy looking at them.
I also like the Jigsaw Journey: Solar System from Silver Dolphin Books. Thanks.
