Sing, Dance, & Learn with Rachel & the TreeSchoolers!
The amazing folks over at Signing Time have a brand new educational series for us! Rachel & the TreeSchoolers is based on a comprehensive preschool curriculum that includes the major academic areas such as language, math, and science and also teaches important social skills such as empathy and kindness. Emmy-nominated host Rachel Coleman and her TreeSchool friends Abacus Finch, Chroma Chameleon, Isaac Newt, and others promote learning through music, movement, and fun!
The first DVD in the series is titled A Rainy Day. Like all rambunctious little ones, the TreeSchoolers love to play outside, but some dreary whether puts a damper on their plans. Abacus Finch is frightened by the thunder and lightning, but Rachel and the other TreeSchoolers teach him (and your children) all about the weather so it’s not so scary! This episode teaches weather concepts, problem solving, rhyming, sign language, classification, storytelling, persistence, kindness, and courage through a 4-step process of “wonder, ask, understand, and share”. This strategy really engages children so they are actively involved in the learning process.
Both of my children absolutely love the music from this video! The DVD has a section just for the songs, so you can play one or all of them anytime you like. My little girl loves to stomp around the room to the Thunder & Lightning song, and it’s so much fun to watch how much energy she puts into it. The Itsy Bitsy Spider has always been my son’s favorite song, and the version on this DVD really keeps his attention. I particularly like how they emphasize the “Never Give Up” message; my son just likes to dance to it ☺.
A music CD is included as well, which makes it easy to listen to the songs they love anywhere, anytime. We take a lot of weekend road trips, and this is a welcome addition to our selection of music for those long drives!
There’s a BONUS too! Register at Signing Time, and you’ll get access to a free Rainy Day Activity Guide.
Your child’s learning experience will be enhanced with this PDF of printable resources that includes:
- Four main language and literacy activities
- Lots of follow-up activity suggestions
- My Rainy Day Book Template
- Character Cards
- Word Cards
- Song Lyrics
- Certificates
There is so much fun to be had with this series, and the way it incorporates learning makes it a real winner. My kids and I can’t wait to see what else Rachel and her TreeSchool friends have in store for us!

I love that they have the music in a separate spot so it can be enjoyed on its own too.

My 2 1/2 year old son loves music. This sounds like it would fit well into the lesson we teach at home already.
