Put an End to Flat Hair with Raise the Roots – Giveaway!
A complimentary sample was provided for review. All opinions are my own.
Everyone with flat, limp hair raise your hand. Did you see me raise both hands in the air faster than Hermione Granger in potions class?
I have a lot of hair, but it’s very fine and soft. It’s not soft in the good way; it’s soft in the way that just results in poofy, dull, unmanageable hair. It’s somewhere in the “wavy” category, and depending on the day and weather conditions, you’ll either see me with stick straight hair that may as well be plastered to my head, or sporting a big poofy halo of fuzz.
That said, it should come as no surprise that I’m constantly on the lookout for hair products that will help me tame this mane and give me a volume boost while maintaining shine and manageability. Surely that’s not too much to ask? I don’t think so.
The folks at TRUHAIR by Chelsea Scott don’t think so, either.
This weekend I gave TRUHAIR’s “Raise the Roots” Thickening Fiber Style Cream a spin.
From TRUHAIR’s description: TRUHAIR by Chelsea Scott™ Raise the Roots Thickening Fiber Cream is a micro-mesh styler that instantly makes your hair look thicker and fuller. Raise the Roots melts into your hair strands and you cannot see it, simply making the hair look thicker. This unique micro-mesh styler, pulls apart in your hand giving you the ability to create tremendous volume and texture with fibers. Helps you achieve today’s hottest styles by giving you volume, separation, and the ability to sculpt your hair without looking sticky and never being heavy.
I will admit that I had to use this product three times before I finally got it right. Please learn from my mistakes. ☺
The first time I used it, disaster ensued. The bottle’s instructions say to use a “small amount.” I wasn’t really thinking when I dispensed the cream that first time; the product I’ve been using lately is much thinner and works differently, and I typically use a quarter-sized amount for that one. So without considering the product’s differences, I squeezed out a quarter-sized amount, rubbed it in, and dried my hair. It was not good, folks. This stuff is POTENT. I cannot stress that enough.
So I tried again, downsizing to a dime-sized amount. Still too much for my hair. My third try, I used a pea-sized amount, and it was the perfect measurement. I thought I would need more, honestly – as I said earlier, my hair is very fine, but it’s also quite long. Your mileage may vary, depending on the length and texture of your hair. I definitely recommend starting with a tiny little pea-sized dollop for your first go. Again – please learn from my mistakes! I should have done a little research or paid more attention on my first try.
How did it work? I think it works pretty well. It’s very thick stuff, so you definitely want to rub your hands together and spread the product around before applying to your hair. I used it all over, root to end, on wet hair. (The bottle indicates it can also be used on dry hair, but I haven’t tried that yet). After drying my hair with my usual method, I could definitely see an increase in lift and volume. Because this product is thick, it helps lift your roots as you dry your hair, and then it helps keep that lift in place throughout the day. I typically use a bit of hairspray after I dry my hair, around the roots, to keep a little lift in place, but that wasn’t necessary after using Raise the Roots. I also spent the day running around doing Christmas shopping in the rain, and spent a lot of time walking downtown in really humid conditions, and the volume was still there at the end of the day.
If you want a volume boost, I definitely recommend giving Raise the Roots a try. Because such a little amount goes so far, I think this product would last a really long time. Since I didn’t have to use hairspray, it also eliminated another step in my styling routine (and might help me save money in the end, as I’ll be using less hairspray overall).

Jasmine P recently posted..MY HOLIDAY WISH LIST & GIFT SHOPPING
I usually wear a ponytail every day, but I need to start fixing it up again!
I use volumizing mousse, blow dry, then anti frizz spray, then flat iron.
Well I always put in some type of curling gel in my hair and than either spray some mouse or hair spray depends what I’m in the mood for LOL
I always put my hair in a fan bun. 🙂
I currently have none but want to change that since my hair is thinning
I use a smoothing cream and moisture lock in, then I use a root boost, blow dry and straighten. =)
I usually just comb wet hair in place and sometimes blow dry, but I could use a “lift”!
Mouse, some scrunching, and air dry.
My hair is thin and flyaway. My style consists of putting in a ponytail.
My hair………………what can I say? It’s baby-fine and limp. The ONLY time I like it is when I get body perms. Otherwise, it’s just flat and looks greasy FAST. If I don’t use good conditioner- it’s not just flat, but flyaway. hahaha You can’t win with it. I keep it in good condition and get blunt cuts to help. Tried layers once but oh my gosh… that was worse. My life consists of dirt dirt dirt in summer- gardening and kids playing in the dirt……..all year round of chasing kids and changing diapers…. I’m not much into styling each day. Only when going out do I style it. Otherwise, it’s wash and go.
I am in a hair rut lol..most of the time I have it in a pony tail
I use mousse and blow dry my hair.
My simply styling routine is hair gel and air dry. I have short hair.
I have very fine hair, too. I usually spray on a volumizer, then blow dry, then curl with a curling iron then spray on hair spray. It is getting to be too much heat on my hair.
I’m wearing my hair shorter and layered. My hair is fine so the layering helps it gain some volume
I use mousse and then blow dry
I don’t do a lot of styling like I used to back in the day. Wrecks havoc with your hair. But I do get the urge at times for something different.
i love to straighten my hair
I use LA looks, its cheapo!
I don’t style my hair. After getting out of the shower, I run BioSilk through my hair, brush it, and then let it air dry.
wash and blow dry…,no product
I have a hairstyle where I just mess it up and go.
I usually put in a serum or smoothing cream.
i dont really have much a routine currently… id like to start one but as a mom of 4 it’s so hard!
I just blow dry and sometimes straighten it.
I am embarrassed to admit my current routine consists of 5 minutes brushing my hair, throwing it in a pony tail and then running out the door. Thank you
I have hair that has a mind of its own so I have to use the straightener every morning on it.
