Nature’s Flavors Natural Colors for Cooking and Baking
Let’s talk about food coloring. I used to use it somewhat often in baking, but I stopped when I learned about the evils of artificial food dyes. I’ve learned to live without them, but I’ve definitely been missing having the option of coloring my baked goodies. If you’ve felt the same way, I have some wonderful news for you. Nature’s Flavors makes all natural colors, and they sent me their Rainbow Pack of Natural Colors to try so I could share my experience with you. This variety pack of liquid colors comes in a 100% recycled package and includes 2 oz. each of Natural Cherry Red, Natural Blue, Natural Green Honeydew Melon, Natural Yellow, and Natural Orange Pumpkin.
Nature’s Flavors Natural colors are all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and chemical-free. You won’t find any toxic colors, preservatives, or corn syrup here like you will in other food dyes, just natural ingredients like vegetable and plant extracts. If you’re a parent dealing with hyperactivity or autism and have been looking to eliminate artificial dyes, these would work well for you. If you’re just someone who chooses quality and natural products and doesn’t want to ingest harmful chemicals, then you’ll love these too!
Nature’s Flavors Natural Colors can be used in a variety of baking and cooking recipes. You can get fancy with cookies and cakes, but you can also use them to have some fun with your everyday foods. My kids absolutely love their breakfast waffle sticks, so I thought I’d treat them by making their morning more colorful. I let them each choose a coloring; my son chose orange and my daughter went with blue:
The colors in the picture were achieved by adding two drops of each coloring to the batter (which I split half). Then you just mix it up and you’re ready to go. There wasn’t any noticeable difference in taste; they were just more fun to eat! I do wish, however, that the bottles came with some sort of dropper to make it easier and neater to dispense. Still, I’d say our breakfast was a success, and I know my kids can’t wait to see what else we can do with the colors.
One of my very favorite desserts is Red Velvet Cake, but I often pass it up because I know some bakers overload it with red dye to obtain it’s vibrant shade of red. It’s so yummy, but I’m just not comfortable eating it unless I know it was naturally colored. Can you take a guess at what I’m going to make next with my new Nature’s Flavors Red Cherry Natural Color? Yes, there will be cake!
I’m thrilled to have found an alternative to the traditional artificial dyes. Last Easter, I searched everywhere for a product like this for dying Easter eggs but didn’t have any luck. Easter egg dying is the perfect application for Nature’s Flavors Natural Colors, I just wish I’d known about them then. You can bet I’ll be using them next year!
Head over to NaturesFlavors.com to learn more about their natural colors and to see the other natural products they offer.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

These are really cool!! I had no idea that there was something like these. We have cut out dyes and I have been looking for a replacement.
Okay, I feel really bad – I totally seemed to have missed the boat on the dangers of the food dye! I thought they took the bad stuff out. 🙁 I totally need to switch to this product. My 10 year old (and the rest of us) completely love Red Velvet anything! Thank you for the information.
