K’NEX Mighty Makers Home Designer Building Set + Giveaway
When I was growing up, my favorite toys were those that made me feel like I was creating something when I played with them. Sure, I loved dolls and action figures and the like, but I really loved toy sets that allowed me to build things.
Even if the name K’NEX doesn’t ring a bell, you’re already familiar with them – they’re the current manufacturer of Lincoln Logs and TinkerToys! K’NEX also offers a huge variety of other buildable toy sets, including the Mighty Makers Home Designer Building Set.
The Home Designer set gives your kids a chance to build a dream house from scratch for its “residents” Brianna and Sophia. Brianna is your child’s building partner, while Sophia is on deck to decorate and style the interior of the house. There are three house style choices (Colonial, brownstone, and cottage). The set also comes with accessories like flowers, tables and chairs, and even blueprints!
My daughter had so much fun with this set, and I love that it gives her a chance to learn about building while she enjoys the more fashionable side of interior design. Check out her build:
The set features 433 K’NEX parts and pieces, 2 figures, lots of accessories, full color instructions, and an exploration card that will challenge builders to explore additional concepts.
As I’ve mentioned before, I love interactive toys that are also educational, and the Home Designer set definitely fits that bill. This set is part of the K’NEX Mighty Makers line of toys, which was actually created by an all-female marketing and design team. Mighty Makers toys are meant to encourage girls to build big ideas, and to foster a love for STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). All the toy sets include story-based instructions that follow the life of a female character. In general, I like to avoid traditional gender “rules” when it comes to toys; I want my kids to play with whatever makes them happy. However, I do absolutely love that this line was developed to inspire girls to become more involved with STEM subjects, because only 24% of the STEM workforce is comprised of women, and STEM jobs are increasing faster than non-STEM jobs. It’s definitely time to motivate our girls to learn and get excited about these female-underrepresented areas.
