Kids are Captivated & Parents are Worry-Free with the Fire Kids Edition Tablet
A complimentary sample was provided for review. All opinions are my own.
If you have a tablet and you also have kids, I’m betting you wish you had $1 for every time your kiddos asked to play with it. I’m also betting you hesitated pretty significantly before handing it over. What if they break it? What if they accidentally download $1,500,000 worth of apps?
Well, it’s your kids’ lucky day (and yours), because Amazon has a new Fire Kids Edition!
My favorite selling point is the 2-Year Worry-Free Guarantee, which means if your kids break it, Amazon will replace it, no questions ask, for a period up to 2 years. That’s a relief!
This is a Kids Edition, but it’s not a toy: it’s a completely full-featured tablet. It has a 2 MP rear-facing HD camera for high-resolution pictures and 720p video, plus a front-facing camera, which makes it perfect for video calls with relatives!
Now how is it geared toward kids?
First, it comes with either a blue or pink Kid-Proof Case that fully protects against drops and bumps that are bound to happen. The case is specially made to be lightweight and durable, and is just the right size and fit for kids’ hands.
Second, those cameras I mentioned earlier feature software that lets your kids get creative with editing tools. They can add stickers or draw on their pictures, and parents can print them to display on the museum wall (read: refrigerator door). There is plenty of room on the device to save all your kids’ artwork, with up 8 GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot, and Amazon’s Cloud Drive offers free unlimited storage for photos taken with Fire tablets.
Third, the Fire Kids Edition comes with a full year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which is a curated subscription of over 10,000 kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games. You’ll have access to content from some of your kids’ favorite channels! And as for safety, Amazon FreeTime blocks kids from posting photos to social media.
The parental controls are what really make this tablet a hands-down winner. You can set time limits, including total screen time and what times the Fire will turn off by and stay off until. Educational goals can be set so that the child is required to spend a certain amount of time on educational apps before getting access to entertainment content and you can specify how much time is divided among books, videos, and apps. You can even have different settings for weekdays and weekends. I held off on getting my kids tablets like this because I didn’t want them to be playing games and watching videos 24/7, but with the Fire Kids, that’s no longer a worry for me.
No child’s profile will ever allow access to in-app purchases, email, or any social media. Parents can also take the device out of FreeTime with a password, customize settings, download or remove apps, and share their kids’ photos. For older kids who might have outgrown FreeTime content, you can access an Activity Center to see how your kids are spending time on their tablet. The data can be viewed on a secure web page, so you can easily check it any time.
Also, if you have multiple kids who will share a tablet, you can make up to four individual profiles and hand-select the content each child will be able to access. Each of the users will feel like they have their own custom tablet!
A few tech specs:
- 7” touchscreen, 1024 x 600 resolution at 171 ppi
- 3 ounces
- 8 GB of internal storage, plus microSD card slot to increase storage up to 128 GB
- Battery covers up to 7 hours of reading, surfing the web, watching videos, and listening to music
- Fully charges in under 6 hours
- Wi-Fi access
- 5 mm stereo jack for headphones plus an integrated speaker
- Built-in Bluetooth for connectivity
Pretty great, right? My kids love their Fire Kids Edition, and I love knowing I can let them go wild without worrying about damage and accidental purchases.

Wow – a 2 Year Worry Free Guarantee is very amazing!
My kids wold love that.
It sure does have some really nice features if you have smaller children. I’ve heard good things about it, and think my Mom bought one for my niece last year.

That is really cool, I wish there had been things like that more widely available when my son was little.
I am such a fan of the Kindle Fire. I have had one since they first came out and they have always been wonderful. I love that they have a kids version!

I love that they just came out with a kids version. My son would really love this as he’s always asking for my tablet.
The 2-Year Worry-Free Guarantee is a must have for kids!

I bought this tablet for my nephew. He loves it and is able to access a number of educational apps.
I need one of these! It will keep my little one entertained at appointments.
It’s amazing how much she loves her tablet. We have to limit her time on it, and if she’s acting up, threatening to take away her tablet for a week normally does the trick.
I bet kids will absolutely love the Fire Kids Edition. I love my Kindle.
This would be perfect for my niece next year. She will probably grow out of the InnoTab she is using now.
My grandson has a tablet but it’s not nearly as nice as this one. As he gets older, he’ll for sure need an upgrade. Thanks for the fun information. 🙂
I worry about my nephew getting off of his.
This kid’s Kindle is excellent for encouraging kids to read!
This is the first time I’ve seen it.
This is a great way to keep kids entertained while on long car rides.
Sounds perfect for children!
Great to know about the parental controls! Always a concern with technology.
This definitely looks like a great kids tablet! I love the parental and safe settings, and the included bumper is perfect!
That looks like a great tablet for kids and their parents. Good stuff easy, bad stuff blocked.
I think this would be a great starter tablet for a young child. Even though it has parental settings I would still monitor my child while they were online.
I would love for my son to have a worry free tablet, I always worry when he is on my tablet.
I love giving my grandchildren tablets for gifts but I worry about safety with their young age. It is good to see the level of security with this one.
My son is too old for this now, but I think he would have loved it when he was younger. I love that you can set it for bedtime and screen time.
I love that they just came out with a kids version. My daughter would really love this as she’s always asking for my tablet. I like that you can make up to four individual profiles and hand-select the content each child will be able to access
That is awesome. I am always worried about my kids playing with my tablet, now I can buy them one and have peace of mind knowing that it can be replaced and set up just for them.
I love that it has a great case and is loaded with so many fun activities! Amazon Free Time sounds great!
This tablet would help so much with monitoring the kid’s screentime AND there’s an extended warranty included for when they inevitably drop it IF it breaks? Where was this when my oldest was younger?
I think this would be a great gift for my grandson!
This would be great for my daughter. I love the parental controls feature!
Parental control features are definitely a selling point. I also like that it comes with the FreeTime activities.

I would love to get one of these for my great granddaughter. I know her mom would appreciate it if she had her own instead of constantly asking for Mom’s tablet.
This has a wide assortment of features for a tablet that kids can use.
I really like how heavy duty this is yet it is still easy to handle.
It’s so great they came out with something safe for kids to use! I just saw a thing on the news this morning that a kid racked up $5,000 on his dad’s phone bill by buying upgrades for a dinosaur game! Luckily, he got the money back, but can you imagine?!
