Ivory Soap Review: The Many Uses of Ivory
It’s time for a review of another item from my Mom VoxBox from Influenster: Ivory soap! Growing up, we always had a bar of Ivory in the shower. For some reason, I stopped using it once I was out on my own. It’s possible that I was wooed away by all the sparkly body washes. I have since forsaken the glitz and glamour of the fancy bodywashes and their even fancier loofahs in favor of simpler and more affordable options. Ivory’s claim is that it’s 99.44% pure, and given my preference for simpler and more natural products, I was excited to give this a try.
The first thing I did after unwrapping my bar was to smell it. Guess what. It smelled like soap. Seriously. No fruit, no overwhelming floral fragrance. Just a light, clean, fresh kind of scent. I prefer no scent at all, but if they must add a fragrance, this is what I think soap should smell like.
We’ve been using the bar for a few weeks now, and it seems to be doing the job. It cleans well, isn’t irritating, and my daughter says it makes her feel smooth! It isn’t particularly moisturizing, but it doesn’t dry out my skin either. I’m curious how well it will work for me in the dry winter months. A lot of people also use Ivory for facial cleansing, but I don’t think I’ll be joining that group unless I am presented with some evidence that it won’t clog my angry pores.
What I love most about this soap is the price. It retails for just $4.27 for a 10-pack of bath size bars. Somehow, I had no idea that Ivory is so much cheaper than the soap I usually buy. Because it can be so expensive, soap is one of those items that I refuse to purchase unless it’s on sale and I have a good coupon. Now that I have rediscovered Ivory and it’s fantastic value, I don’t feel like I need to stress about playing the coupon game. Less stress makes a happier mommy.
But wait! There’s more! Until now, I was also not aware that Ivory has so many uses. People use it to make laundry detergent, as a spot treatment for stains, and to make soap crayons, whale carvings, and microwave snow. So versatile! Who knew?
And let’s not forget that Ivory is the soap that floats! Okay, I’m not really sure what the benefit of floating soap is, and I certainly haven’t tried to float any other soap that I’ve purchased, but it does make it sound like fun, doesn’t it? Yeah, I just couldn’t do an Ivory review without including a floating soap reference.
My biggest complaint? NO WEB SITE. Ivory, I’m very proud of you for finally being cool enough to have your own Facebook page, but it is not a substitute for an actual web site. As a modern, spoiled consumer, I have come to expect companies to provide me with an easy way to research the products I am interested in, and Facebook doesn’t cut it for that purpose. Keep the Facebook, but please have a fully functional web site too. Thanks for listening.
Will I buy Ivory again? Absolutely. I don’t see any reason to spend more money on other soaps. Ivory does the job at a much lower price and without the heavy dyes, perfumes, and other irritants that a lot of soaps have. I plan to use it as a stain treatment next!
As a member of Influenster, I received this product for free in exchange for my feedback.
