What better way to warm up the holiday season than with a steaming cup of delicious hot chocolate? It’s just right for cozying up on the couch with the kids, and it certainly makes family movie night extra sweet. Packaged varieties, while convenient, often include fake sugars and other questionable ingredients that I prefer to avoid. So, as with most things, I end up making my own.
Now I know you’re thinking that you’re way too busy (and too tired) to start making your hot chocolate from scratch, but I promise you can do this. Not only can you do this, but it won’t take you any extra time, so you won’t miss any special family moments during the ever-so-hectic holiday season. How? Vitamix to the rescue—again.
If you’ve been following along this year, you already know how much I’ve been loving my Vitamix. It’s made weekday breakfasts and dinners much less stressful for me, and I can honestly say it’s become my favorite kitchen tool. With my newest toy, the Vitamix Aer Disc Container, I continue to be impressed. Instead of regular blades that puree, the container features a special disc that aerates your ingredients. It’s really quite simple, but it lets you create amazingly delicious recipes without much effort. And now we get back to our hot chocolate recipe.
Look at those bubbles! This hot chocolate recipe is rich and creamy while somehow still being light and frothy. You’ll notice the directions don’t mention having to heat anything, and that’s because it happens during the blending process. It’s all part of the Aer Disc magic, and it only takes two ingredients and six-ish minutes.
Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups skim milk
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
- Pour skim milk into the Aer disc container.
- Add chocolate chips.
- Secure lid, select the lowest setting, and start the blender.
- Slowly increase to the highest speed and run for about 6 minutes.
I told you that you could do this! Fast, easy, delicious hot chocolate, and you have complete control over the ingredients. Have a little fun with the recipe by adding vanilla or peppermint extracts. Maybe top it with some chocolate shavings? And of course, you can’t go wrong with marshallows.
Or you can use your Aer Disc Container to make the most awesome whipped cream you’ve ever had. Once again, we’re talking two ingredients and even fewer than six minutes.
Vitamix Aer Disc Whipped Cream Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups heavy cream
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
Directions
- Pour heavy cream into Aer disc container.
- Add sugar, secure the lid, and select lowest speed setting.
- Gradually increase to the highest speed, and let run for 45 seconds to 1 minutes. If needed, use the included tamper to press ingredients toward the disc as you near the end of the mixing cycle.
Drop a dollop onto your hot chocolate or dip some fresh strawberries in it. Your family will think you’ve suddenly turned into a gourmet chef. Don’t worry; I won’t tell them your secret!
This homemade hot chocolate and whipped cream is just the start of what you can do with the Vitamix Aer Disc Container. It muddles, it foams, it whips, and it emulsifies. Lattes, Hollandaise sauce, cocktails—the Vitamix Aer Disc Container lets you prepare them all in a fraction of the time while saving both your whisk and your wrists. All that and the container comes with a three-year warranty too.
