A High-Protein, After-School Snack that the Kids Can Make Themselves
Earlier this week I looked at the calendar and thought “How is it November?” There might have been a minor expletive in there somewhere, but I’m not telling. Either way: really, how is it already November? Surely last week was July? We’re so busy around here, at this point it seems like one day is blurring into the next one. Christmas is on its way more quickly than I would prefer, the school year is just flying by at the speed of light, and practically every day there is some kind of after-school activity that the kids or I have to do.
No matter how fun those activities are, I hate it when they interfere with mealtime. I like to have dinner on the table around the same time every night, but on some evenings that’s impossible. On those days when dinner will be much later than normal, it’s crucial for me to make sure my kids have a high-protein snack before their activities. Some of their favorite snacks are Flatbread Pocket Sandwiches made by Sandwich Bros., and I love them, too. They’re packed with protein to keep them energized, they’re super-fast and easy, they’re warm and hearty, and they’re really…really tasty!
Sandwich Bros. of Wisconsin makes both breakfast sandwiches and snack meal sandwiches. Their snack meals are delicious microwavable sandwiches in pocket flatbread that come in a variety of flavors:
- Angus Cheeseburgers: Flame-broiled 100% Angus beef burger topped with real American cheese
- Gyro Sliders: Seasoned beef burger topped with creamy herbed yogurt cheese
- Chicken Melts: 100% white chicken breast topped with real American cheese
- Italian Sausage Melts: Italian-seasoned sausage patty topped with real provolone cheese
- Pizza Burgers: Italian-seasoned beef and pork patty topped with real provolone cheese
We’ve been eating and loving the Sandwich Bros. Chicken Melts. The chicken is lightly breaded, which gives it extra flavor. The pocket flatbread is soft and thin; sometimes when microwaving a sandwich the bread can get tough, but I really love that these stay soft. The sandwiches are individually wrapped, which earns even more bonus points in my book. And they’re already fully cooked, so heating them up takes less than a minute and couldn’t be easier.
A note about flavors: the Angus cheeseburgers, gyro sliders, and chicken melts are all easily found in grocery stores, though the Italian sausage melts and pizza burgers are brand new flavors still hitting the shelves nationwide. To find retailers that carry Sandwich Bros. products near you, just enter your zip code in their store locator.
Sandwich Bros. sandwiches are perfect for on-the-go snacking, but they’re also great as a light dinner with a salad, and they’re easy for kids to make themselves (and I really like anything that gets the kids involved with what goes on in the kitchen). They’re a favorite all around, and I think you’d like them, too. Even at this age I would love this as an after work snack!
I had to buy a bigger box the next time I got them because I kept eating them!
Those look really good. I have to pick some of them up. They’re exactly the type of thing my kids love.

This looks like a great snack. I will have to make the Gyro Sliders when my son has his friends over for game night.
Looks great. I think my son would love that

I’m all about anything that’s high in protein and of course, easy to make. My nieces would definitely love to try these chicken melts out.
