Georgie Porgie Manners Placemat Review & Giveaway
Kids aren’t generally known for their naturally fantastic table manners. I can’t even get mine to stay seated at a table for more than a few minutes at at time. They’re far too comfortable in their environment, and I’ve felt like I needed to introduce something more formal to make staying in one place stick. Georgie Porgie happened to have just what I needed to start our journey toward better table manners.
Georgie Porgie is not just the little boy from the nursery rhyme who made all the girls cry. Georgie Porgie is also a new company whose mission is to teach children about nutrition and manners through products featuring adorable illustrations inspired by ’20s and ’30s children’s literature. Currently, their efforts are focused on two lines of merchandise: The Nutrition Collection and The Manners Collection.
The Nutrition Collection is designed to make it easier and more fun for kids to eat healthy meals, while The Manners Collection is designed…well, to improve their manners! My kids are pretty good eaters, but as I mentioned, their table manners could use some work, so I opted to review their Manners Placemat.Isn’t the vintage design is just precious?! The illustrations on this placemat will make it easy to teach your little ones how to properly set the table. Two important tips on offering to help clean up and waiting to eat until everyone is served are inscribed toward the top, and I read them aloud at each meal. Once my kiddies can read on their own, I have every intention of having them read it to me when we sit down to eat together! Oh, and don’t worry if a bite or two is accidentally dropped onto the placemat; it’s laminated and can be quickly wiped clean with a damp cloth.
By using these placemats, my kids have become more involved with mealtime preparation, which makes them a lot more interested in the meal itself. Not only are they learning how to set the table, but this has added a touch of comfortable formality that is encouraging them to focus on the meal and actually finish it before trying to run off to play. It’s so much fun for me to see them want to help and to see how proud they are when they lay out their place settings all by themselves!
We all want our children to develop good eating habits. Using images and ideas inspired by a simpler time, Georgie Porgie creates products that help them do that and make mealtime more enjoyable for the whole family. I’m a huge fan of the designs and the ideas behind Georgie Porgie, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Head over to GPorgie.com to see the rest of the items in The Manners Collection, and don’t forget to check out The Nutrition Collection too! You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
Georgie Porgie is offering a Game On Mom reader the chance to win a Manners Placemat! Giveaway is open to residents of the US who are 18 and older. Ends 8/1/13. Good luck!
