Galaxy ZEGA: A Tank Battle Game that Combines the Best of Mobile with the Best of Real Life
I’m starting to get emails telling me about Black Friday ads that have already been released (maybe I should say leaked) online, and even though I hate the Black Friday circus I can’t help but look. Of course, it’s no surprise to anyone that toys are the biggest focal point right now, and I happen to be in the market for some. As my kids get older and become more tech savvy, it really opens the door to a lot of fun new toys and games, but frankly I get a headache from wading through so many options.
My kids and I recently played a brand new game that’s sure to be a hit this holiday season, and since I hope to make holiday shopping easier for our readers, I want to tell you about it. Allow me to introduce you to Galaxy ZEGA, a virtual tank battle game.
Galaxy ZEGA is an interactive game that combines traditional digital gameplay with real life toy components. It’s like remote-controlled car meets video game, and together they make a fun and totally entertaining activity the family can do as a group. Game critics (like the folks at Polygon and iLounge) have called it one of the best games of the year, and after my family and I spent some time playing with it, I have to agree.
So how does it work? For starters, the Galaxy ZEGA is controlled via a Bluetooth-connected smart device app. The activity takes place on a battlefield (tiles that connect magnetically) where little tanks called ZEGAs “fight” by firing at one another while navigating obstacles and enemies. The ZEGAs have charging stations (and you can recharge via USB cable); once they’re fully charged, they have around 2.5 hours of playing time. ZEGAs are also capable of some pretty neat tricks. They have treads that help them climb over small obstacles, and they can spin and turn on a dime.
The ZEGAs currently available are Leo, Gondar, Razor, and Puck, and each has its own personality.
Leo, for example, is a team leader with balanced skills in the attack, defense, and speed categories, while Gondar is an attack ZEGA with strong firepower. Like many virtual games, you’ll unlock skills, bonus powers, increase life spans, and even find more complex strategies. My kids and husband love games, so they naturally loved that this combines a standard game interface with something in the real world. I’m not much of a gamer, but I really enjoyed this!
The Galaxy ZEGA really is a lot of fun, and I love that it’s entertaining for both kids and parents alike. It’s a great option for your holiday gift lists, so hop over to GalaxyZEGA.com to grab the starter kit (including 2 ZEGAs, a battlefield, connectors, and chargers) and prepare for a fun and friendly family battle!
