The Most Fun Way to Eat Veggies + Birds Eye Giveaway
Now that summer is rapidly approaching its end and the kids are back in school, our schedules are starting to get a little crazy. After school activities have already started and will only increase as the school year goes on, which means more time out of the house during evening hours. As you might have guessed, that means our dinners may be rushed.
Even on a slow day, it can be difficult to put together a healthy dinner that everyone in the family will enjoy, especially if you have any picky eaters at your dinner table. Like many parents, my biggest struggle comes from everybody’s favorite troublemaker: the vegetable.
Did you know that only 28% of dinners include a vegetable? I want to be surprised by that figure, but honestly I’m not. It can be really hard to foster a love of vegetables in your kids, no matter how you cook or present them. Ask me about broccoli someday when I’ve had a glass of wine, and I’ll tell you my battle stories.
There are brands out there willing to go the extra mile to get veggies on the table, one of which is Birds Eye.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you already have some Birds Eye products in your fridge, especially their Steamfresh dishes. You may remember seeing some Disney Steamfresh products in the past, and now their line has been expanded to convince even older (read: more stubborn) kids to get at least one veggie in each meal!
This year, in addition to the already fun Disney Steamfresh veggies, you’ll find:
- Yoda shaped pasta & broccoli in white cheese sauce
- R2D2 shaped pasta & green beans in marinara sauce
- Spiderman shaped pasta & broccoli in yellow cheese sauce
- Avengers shaped whole grain pasta & peas in butter sauce
Everyone in my family is a big fan of both Star Wars and superheroes, so I was really excited to give these a try! I love adding a little novelty into the mundane when I can, so I think putting Yoda in my broccoli is basically perfect. Luckily, my kids agree! The character-shaped pasta has definitely made veggies more fun for them, and there is also an added side benefit I want to point out. My son doesn’t like it when foods touch on his plate. If the green beans slide into the corn, it’s an issue. We’ve been working to get past that problem, and these Birds Eye dishes have really helped. The veggies are mixed in with the pasta, which would normally be a total no-go, but because it’s Yoda and Spiderman he is willing to eat them together with little complaint. It’s a small victory, but it’s definitely helped us make the transition more smoothly.
The Birds Eye Steamfresh line is available at grocers everywhere, and if you’re looking for a way to liven up your mealtime veggies, these fun varieties are the perfect way to do it! Also, because I know you love goodies as much as I do, I’m happy to tell you that we’re giving away five coupons for free Birds Eye Steamfresh products to one lucky reader! Make sure to enter the giveaway before you go, and check out BirdsEye.com to learn more about their Steamfresh products.
Giveaway is open to US residents who are 18 and older. Ends 10/6/16 at 11:59 PM ET. Good luck!

Oooh I love the steamfresh bags!! So super convenient and so delish!! I haven’t tried any of these new kinds yet though!! I will have to!
We love the steamfresh bags! It makes it so much easier to get my kids to eat veggies at every meal. I’d love to try the new ones!
My wife is great at getting our kids to eat vegetables. Honestly, her approach is to just make them eat it until they like it. Still working on beets, but it definitely worked for brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Our kids are also not fans of a lot of sauces, so we keep it simple – olive oil, salt, pepper and roast in the oven works for cauliflower and brussel sprouts. And they LOVE when I grill cauliflower steaks. Of course, we also steam some frozen veggies, too, so Steam Fresh bags would be great.
These look so yummy! Thanks for sharing 🙂
