Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer Review and Giveaway
Thank you to Exergen for providing a thermometer for review. All opinions are my own.
When I was a kid, one of the worst things about being sick was having my temperature taken. I won’t even get into all the unfortunate methods people have had to use in the past, but at the very least, I hated sitting with a thermometer in my mouth. I was terrified of biting down and cracking the glass. I still am, if I’m being honest.
So the first time someone took my temperature with a temporal artery scanning thermometer, I was really excited. Overly excited. The nurse looked at me funny. But seriously, it’s so easy, so quick, and so sanitary – I’m a fan. Once I realized they weren’t magical devices only available in doctor’s offices, I was even happier: Exergen’s Smart Glow TemporalScanner™ Thermometers are available to purchase for home, and you can easily find them at stores you already visit, like Walmart, Walgreens, and Costco.
If you have never used or seen a temporal scanner, you just quickly run the soft button of thermometer over a patient’s forehead and boom: you have an accurate reading. It’s truly no muss, no fuss.
Exergen’s TemporalScanner™ is #1 with nurses, pediatricians, and clinics, and for good reason. It’s bad enough to make a sick adult sit through a standard thermometer reading, but a sick kid? Forget it. Whether the thermometer is in their mouth, ear, or…the other place…kids don’t like it (and doctors tend to disregard unreliable ear readings, anyway). And when a sick child has finally fallen asleep, who wants to wake them up to test their temperature again? It’s easy to do a temporal scan on a sleeping baby (or grown up) without disturbing them at all, and that means a lot when someone feels terrible. It’s also far more sanitary than any other temperature-taking method, so there’s no gross-out factor and you’re also not spreading germs among family members.
Cold and flu season is practically knocking on our doors, and it’s important to make sure you have a good, reliable thermometer on hand for those inevitable illnesses the kids will bring home from school. Exergen’s TemporalScanner™ Thermometers are the perfect choice for any household and for patients of any age, and it’s also a fantastic traveling thermometer. If you’ve ever Googled the location for the nearest Walgreens on vacation just so you could go buy a thermometer for a child’s unexpected sickness, you’ll know what I mean. A packing list for trips with kids, especially winter ones, should always include a thermometer.
A few more cool things about the TemporalScanner™:
- It’s made in the USA!
- It has a softly illuminated display for reading in any light (no need to turn on a light and wake up the patient).
- A beeping sound that indicates scanning can be turned on or off as needed, so again it’s sleep-friendly.
- It automatically retains the last 8 readings, so you can easily follow fever progression.
- It also has the ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius modes.
- A 9-volt battery is included.
Basically, it’s all around the best choice! If you want to learn more about Exergen’s products, make sure to check out Exergen.com for more details and retail locations near you.

#1 recommended by pediatricians
I learned that this thermometer scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses!
