Doctor On Demand: Consult a Physician Without Leaving Home! + Giveaway
This is a sponsored discussion on behalf of Doctor On Demand. All opinions are my own.
Visiting a doctor can be difficult when you’re a busy person, and if you have small children like I do, the process is even more troublesome. On more than one occasion, I’ve either self-diagnosed (not always the best idea) or just ignored a problem entirely because I didn’t want to wait weeks for an appointment or I couldn’t deal with dragging two rambunctious kids with me to the office. I also really dislike taking my kids to the pediatrician for minor problems. Sit in a waiting room for an hour with other people’s sniffling, sneezing, germ-infested kids? No thanks.
My daughter has been dealing with a skin issue that, for the reasons mentioned above, I have been trying to take care of at home. I’ve tried a few different things, but I haven’t seen any change in her condition yet. Just when I was about to give in and make an appointment with her pediatrician, I was rescued by Doctor On Demand.
With Doctor On Demand, you can video chat with a real, US-licensed and board-certified physician without leaving your own home. No more wasting hours of your day getting to and from an office and waiting to see the doctor. You can speak with someone right when you want to or schedule a time for later, and technically, you can do it from where ever you are when you need help. A call with a Doctor On Demand doctor is $40, which is comparable to what most people have as a copay these days.
Using the service is simple. First you need to download the free app from either iTunes or Google Play and register. This does require that you enter payment information, but you aren’t charged anything until you make a call, and then you are only charged for that call; there aren’t any subscription fees. (Make sure you register with code GOM14 to get $10 off a call!)
In my case, I was calling for my daughter, so I entered my child’s name and some brief information on her condition, and before I knew it, I was connecting to a doctor. You get 15 minutes for your call, just like a traditional in-office appointment. The doctor I spoke with was very friendly, and he asked many appropriate questions to ensure he thoroughly understood our problem. We were even able to take a photo of her skin and send it to the doctor right through the app during our conversation. (Fancy, I know!) Our doctor offered several specific steps we could take to alleviate her condition and made sure I understood everything we’d discussed and didn’t have any further questions before our call ended. He was great!
If you find a doctor you love, like I did, you can favorite that person to make it easier to connect again in the future. They have doctors you can trust too. In addition to being highly educated and having years of experience, each Doctor On Demand doctor undergoes a thorough background check receives special training to ensure they are able to conduct quality video consultations.
When should you use Doctor On Demand? If you are looking for a physician’s advice on problems like rashes, colds, pink eye, bladder infections, or if you need a referral to a specialist, definitely give them a call. For more serious issues, such as chest pain, head injuries, poisoning, or broken bones, you’ll want to get yourself to an emergency room.
Visit Doctor On Demand to learn more about this convenient and easy-to-use service. Download the free app at iTunes or Google Play, and don’t forget to use code GOM14 when you register. Connect with them on Facebook and Twitter to get all of their updates.

I like that you can talk with a doctor & kind of get a feel for what the problem might be so you can decide if you need to investigate your situation further or just let it work itself out. I am not one to run to the doctor a lot, but I do have 16 grandchildren & get many calls with symptoms & “what do you think it is?” I am going to recommend this app for my children as well.
I love the idea of doctor on demand. there is nothing worse than feeling sick and having to wait for an hour in a waiting room with other sick people only to be told that you’ll be fine in time. i used to have access to a nurse on demand service with my insurance and it was wonderful. i didn’t call it often, but at 3 in the morning it was great to be reassured or to get some medical advice.
not much as i don’t have a smart phone and cant get the app
Man we could really use this! As first time parents we never know whats going on when Iza, our one year old, is not feeling well. I wonder if it will work for us while we are in Guatemala? Not speaking great Spanish and struggling to find good doctors is a challenge for us and this might solve some of our problems for minor issues. Thanks for all of the great info on this app!

This would be great for a middle of the night medical issue.
I like the idea of being able to have a doctor available when you need them.
I like being able to consult with the doctor without leaving my home – the last thing I want to do when I don’t feel well is go sit in a waiting room for an hour!
I like the fact that you can talk to a doctor and probably find out what is wrong with you without having to leave your home. Sometimes I don’t feel like getting dressed and going to the doctor.
This is a great tool especially when you’re in away from home with the kids. I like the fact that these physicians are
skilled in the clinical review of symptoms and not simply ordering any test that can be thought of.
