Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Cleans & Calms All Skin Types + Giveaway!
I have never been able to get rid of my skin issues. Even as an adult, I still break out, especially during, well, that time of the month when things go haywire and hormones wreak havoc on my poor face. I’ve tried just about everything I can think of, and right now I’m enjoying something a little more old-fashioned than a lot of the products on the shelves these days: witch hazel!
Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel, to be specific.
You’ve probably heard of Dickinson’s, or at least seen their products on the shelves, as they’ve been around since 1866. Any product with that kind of staying power is obviously doing something right, so I was excited to try out their toner and cleansing products!
Before we go further, let me tell you a little about witch hazel:
I bet you already know that it’s a plant, but did you know it’s the twigs and bark of the Witch Hazel plant that create the herbal extract found in products like those made by Dickinson’s? Witch Hazel extract has cleansing, soothing, and therapeutic properties that take care of any skin type.
When I say “any skin type,” it’s truly any skin type. Here’s how it works:
- Normal Skin: Removes everyday dirt, oil, and impurities
- Oily Skin: Controls oil, eliminates shine, and balances skin
- Dry Skin: Nourishes flaky and dull skin without removing essential moisture
- Sensitive Skin: Cleans, calms, and conditions without overdrying
- Combination Skin: Evens out the oil and dry areas
- Enlarged Pores: Unclogs, refines, and tightens pores
I’ve tried three Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel products for this post:
This is the real deal, the original formula used since 1866! It’s a gentle product and it’s 100% all natural, which I love. The toner cleanses and conditions, and can be used after washing your face with your usual cleanser both in the morning and at night before bed. Just use a cotton ball to apply.
The toner is free of fragrances, dyes, acids, and parabens.
These are super convenient, on-the-go towelettes sealed individually in their own little packet. I really love these, because they’re perfect for travel, especially short trips. You can also keep one in your bag or car for any makeup emergencies that might arise during the day. These towelettes are made with an interlocking mesh weave that traps dirt and oil and cleans deep, and feature aloe to help moisturize and soothe skin. They make it easy to keep your skin clean and balanced no matter where you are, and since they’re individually sealed, you don’t have to worry about them drying out.
The towelettes are free of fragrances, oils, acids, and parabens.
Refreshingly Clean Cleansing Cloths
The cloths are a great way to cleanse your skin without scrubbing with harsh soaps. Botanical extracts of witch hazel and aloe do the job here, and will remove oil and makeup from your skin, tone your pores, and even help “depuff” your skin, which I really like (I tend to be puffy in the mornings). These clothes are super soft and large and do not leave a sticky residue like some cleansing cloths I’ve used from other brands.
The cloths are free of soaps, acids, and parabens.
I love the fact that Dickinson’s products are all natural. I’m looking forward to using this simplified approach to skincare – after all, it’s worked since 1866! Witch Hazel makes my skin feel really clean, it has a nice tingle, and unlike harsh products with chemicals, it leaves my skin feeling incredibly moisturized. I was really surprised at how nice my skin feels after cleansing, and I’m really happy that overdrying is not something I have to worry about. If I had to lodge a complaint, there would be only one: the scent. I’ll be honest – it smells like Vodka. This put me off at first and made me nervous about trying the products, but after I used it, my worries went away. It’s just Witch Hazel’s natural scent, and I really appreciate the fact that Dickinson’s does not add fragrances to their products. You definitely smell the Witch Hazel when you’re applying it, but the scent goes away quickly and doesn’t linger. I just wanted to give you a heads-up on that one.
Dickinson’s offers other products, too, like foaming cleansers and astringents, so make sure to check out DickinsonsUSA.com for more information. You can also follow them on Facebook for skincare tips!
