Color Your Heart with a Cherry Berry Smoothie
February is Heart Health Month; having you been eating your fruits and vegetables? If you want your heart to stay in good shape, it’s not enough to avoid unhealthy foods. It’s just as important that you eat a variety of heart-healthy foods too. Where do I go when the humidity drawers in my fridge need refilling? BJ’s! They’ve got tons of fresh and frozen produce to choose from at great prices, and a decent amount of it is organic, which is what I prefer to buy.
On my most recent trip to BJ’s, I picked up some ingredients to make a Heart-Healthy Cherry Berry Smoothie.
It’s a BJ’s recipe (from the infographic below), but I’ve modified it slightly to include all organic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 10 oz. Wellsley Farms Organic Greek Yogurt
- 1 1/2 Cascadian Farm Frozen Organic Cherries
- 1/2 Cascadian Farm Frozen Organic Strawberries
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a blender.
- Cover & blend on high speed, about 1 minute or until smooth.
- Pour into 3 glasses.
- Serve immediately.
Easy, delicious, and oh so good for you. You can do so much with smoothies, so go ahead and experiment with your own blend. This was my first time trying this specific recipe, but I’m no stranger to the frozen fruit section of BJ’s. I have made countless smoothies with their Wellsley Farms Triple Berry Blend, and more recently, I’ve been experimenting with Wyman’s Strawberries, Blueberries, & Cherries with Kale. Smoothies make it super easy to fit healthy fruits and veggies into your diet, and they make a great breakfast or snack. They’re totally worth having to clean the blender when you’re done!
Whether or not you’re a smoothie person, you can show how much you love your heart by stocking up on heart-healthy pink, red, and purple produce like those in this Color Your Heart infographic from BJ’s:

I might try this with that kale blend. It’s probably the only way you’ll get me to eat kale!
Organic is the only way to go.

This sounds and looks delicious! I always feel like I don’t get enough cherry’s in my diet considering how much I like them!
This looks absolutely delish! I love the chart too. Yay for organic, I only eat organic fruits and veggies unless they are non-gmo certified!
This sounds yummy, I often forget that I can add my applesauce to my smoothie and this is a good idea
