Build What You Dream with Award-Winning & Affordable Strictly Briks
Brick systems are popular toys for a good reason: building is fun. They encourage kids to explore and use their imaginations, all while developing fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, problem solving skills, and more. Unfortunately, it’s a hobby that can also be quite costly. So, when we come across a well-executed product that makes all of the benefits of brick building affordable, we just have to share.
Our latest find is Strictly Briks. They make construction bricks that are compatible with those of other major brands, and they’ve garnered a slew of awards from toy industry experts. Let’s take a look at some of the toys they currently offer.
With so many interesting options, it’s hard to know where to start! We have their 108-piece Big Briks set (ages 3+), which includes chunky style 2×2 bricks and 2×4 bricks in red, yellow, blue, and green. Looking at them or using them, you can’t tell them apart from other bricks. They stick together easily and stay in place and generally seem of good quality. Big Briks work with other large size bricks and baseplates, so you can add them to an already existing collection—like we did.
My son took his Jake figure from another brand’s set and made him a Big Briks couch to relax on. Jake’s three-story apartment is the Strictly Briks Brik Tower (ages 5+), which comes with six 10×10 base plates and 50 stackers. With all those stackers, you can put together a pretty tall building, and of course, the base plates can be used on their own with any bricks. While they aren’t technically big brick base plates, they still work just fine with our Strictly Briks Big Brik set.
Brik Buster (ages 3+) is another tower toy that you can use for building and playing like you would with ordinary bricks.
But this one comes with a hammer! Brik Buster is more than just a building toy; it’s also a game the whole family can play. Build a tower that’s five stories high, and then take turns swinging the hammer at the support bricks. Don’t be the one who knocks it down or you lose! The game is designed for 2 or more players, but I can tell you that my son enjoys playing alone as much as he enjoys playing with his sister.
Now prepare yourself for something really special: 3D Play Rubik’s Briks (ages 8+)! Yes, that’s Rubik’s like the cube, and it makes for a unique building experience.
We’ve got the Vehicle Set, which allows you to make a plane, spaceship, or race car. The blocks are designed to connect on all sides, and getting them to work together is a bit like a puzzle. Rubik’s Briks are more challenging, but that also makes them more fun. Detailed instructions are included to guide you through the process of creating the three vehicles, and you’re going to need them. Once you get the hang of it, you’re going to have a blast coming up with your own designs. Don’t quote me on this, but I feel like these 3D bricks will actually make you smarter. They force you to think differently about how you build things. It takes some getting used to, but it actually makes the engineering so much more interesting.
Another toy in the Strictly Briks Rubik’s line is Pixels (ages 4+). Look at our cute dolphin!
With Rubik’s Briks Pixels, you get a base plate, 235 pixels, instructions on how to make three different mosaics, and a nifty little bag for storing your pieces. Snap the little pixel tiles onto the base plate to create the pictures in the guide book or images straight from your imagination. It’s easy to use, but it’s wonderful for fostering little ones’ creativity.
To insert a little more learning into playtime, try AlphaBriks (4+).
While these aren’t part of the Rubik’s series, they work the same way. The set includes a base plate, 100 AlphaBriks, and another storage bag. Attaching and removing the pegs is easy for little fingers, and that bag ensures the pegs won’t get lost. Kids can use AlphaBriks for reading exercises, playing word games, writing messages, or anything else they can dream up.
Time to get festive! Add to your own 3D build to your tree this year with the Strictly Briks DIY Cube Christmas Ornament (ages 3+). There are three different ornament styles available, and you have the choice of following the design in the instructions or coming up with your own.
What you can’t see here is that two sides of the cube have my daughter’s initial on them. She was simply overjoyed that she was not only able to build her own ornament, but she was able to personalize it as well. Everything you need is in the box, including connectable base plates, pixels, and a string for hanging your ornament. This is a permanent addition to our Christmas decor!
As you can see, Strictly Briks offers something fun for kids of all ages, and I assure you that adults who like to build will be fans too. Their goal is to bring together the best in education and entertainment, and I think they’ve succeeded. By providing so many opportunities for STEM-based, open-ended play, Strictly Briks does a wonderful job of letting kids’ creativity shine through. Everything we’ve tried from them has been very high quality, and again, they are compatible with other major brands, so they easily fit into an already established brick collection. Combine all of this with affordability, and you get two very enthusiastic thumbs up from this mom.
