Did you dream of having a Barbie Dreamhouse when you were a little girl? It was at the top of my Christmas list every year, but Santa never did deliver on that request. Don’t worry; I’ve gotten over it. Mostly. I also have a super fun app that’s helping me fulfill my childhood wishes: Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures.

Listen to me talking about my childhood wishes. Being the loving mother that I am, I downloaded this app for my daughter, but as you can tell, I’ve been enjoying it myself. It’s too much fun not to! You get to decorate the whole dreamhouse with different patterns and colors, and you don’t have to worry about dealing with contractors. If only real life worked that way.

You can decorate just about everything. Walls, doors, furniture—it’s all customizable based on what you have in your inventory. Heck, if you want polka-dotted floors, you can have polka-dotted floors. They’ve even got special holiday decorations to make the house look extra bright and festive. In my Dreamhouse right now, you’ll find that Barbie’s bedroom walls have pretty Christmas ornament wallpaper, a Christmas lights bedspread, and a snowman-patterned floor. Does it match? No. Do we care? No. As Barbie says, “It’s 100% awesome.”

There’s lots more to do other than decorating. Head downstairs to the kitchen and make some yummy gingerbread cookies for your friends. Do some yoga, or take a ride down the slide into the swimming pool. Give your friends some instruments and put on a rock concert, or have yourself a puppy dance party. Yes, not only are there puppies, but they dance.

And no Barbie experience would be complete without the opportunity to play dress up.

There are so many options here; you’d be surprised how much time you can waste coming up with different combinations of dresses, shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories. Once you’re rocking your fabulous ensemble, you can head over to the salon for a new ‘do. Unlike in real life, there aren’t any consequences to going purple for a day, so go ahead and try out different colors, styles, and accessories. You can even give Ken a man bun. You shouldn’t…but you could.

So aside from Barbie herself, you can interact with Ken, Renee, Skipper, and other characters, as well as their adorable pets. Dress them up, take them to the salon, decorate their spaces, but pay attention while you’re playing because sometimes they have special requests. If they’re hungry or tired or feel it’s time for a wardrobe change, they’ll let you know. Give them what they want, and you’ll make them happy. When they’re happy, they’ll give you hearts.. Collect enough hearts, and you get a gift! (A word of advice: don’t ignore them when they want to read. That seems to get you lots of hearts.) Gifts might be new wallpaper or paint color, or you might get some fun home decor like a kitty wall clock. I once got a unicorn rocking horse!

My daughter and I have been having having a great time with our Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures experience, and my son has also been getting in on the fun. He especially loves making the puppies do yoga. (Seriously.) We all love exploring the dreamhouse to see what other surprises we might find.
