A Busy Morning Victory with El Monterey Signature Breakfast Burritos #MomWins
I live in the Southeast, where biscuits and gravy are synonymous with breakfast. We like pancakes and waffles, too. But breakfast burritos? For most of my life I didn’t even know what they were, but a few years ago I started spending some time in Texas, where they are a Big Thing. After I took my first bite of a breakfast burrito, a love affair began. Unfortunately they’re not so common here at home, and I have desperately been looking for them.
Thank you El Monterey for saving me!
These are not brand new, but they’re brand new to me. I’ll admit that I am something of a snob when it comes to freezer food, so I had not considered frozen breakfast burritos. I tend to avoid trying a lot of things from the freezer section thanks to some really bad experiences involving freezer-burned foods I tossed into microwaves in my younger days. But like most things, frozen foods have improved over the years, and I really should be more open to it. El Monterey gave me the opportunity to revisit frozen food, and with a breakfast burrito, no less!
And they are seriously yummy!
I got the 12-pack of El Monterey’s Egg, Sausage, & Cheese burritos. I was a little (a lot) nervous about that, because I was afraid the burritos would quickly develop freezer burn in that big bag. I was so happy to open the bag and find that every single burrito is individually packaged in its own sealed plastic wrapper. That helps keep them so much fresher for so much longer! Not only that, it makes them the perfect choice to toss in your bag and take to work. All you have to do is pop the burrito in the microwave or traditional oven, no special instructions required, so you’ll have a hot breakfast (or lunch, no judgment here) in no time. If you’re a mom who is responsible for getting your family out the door on time every morning, you’re especially going love having these in your freezer. (Mom wins!)
As for taste, they are delicious. I mentioned earlier that freezer food has improved in many areas, and this is one of them. They are so flavorful and the ingredients really feel fresh. Sometimes products with frozen eggs and meats can feel rubbery once they’re cooked, but these don’t because they’re packed with real ingredients like scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and sausage wrapped in a fresh-baked flour tortilla. The cheese melts nicely and everything just works so well together. And these are not just your standard “sausage, egg, and cheese” flavor. Remember, these are a Southwest tradition, so they have a Southwest flavor. They have a spicy kick! Don’t fret if you’re not into really spicy foods; these have just enough spice to amp up the flavor, but it’s mild enough for just about anyone to enjoy.
Overall, I give these breakfast burritos an A! I microwaved the burrito in these pictures, but I also made another one in the oven later. It was even better! If you’re not pressed for time, try baking them. And if you are pressed for time, toss it in the microwave and know you’re still going to have a delicious breakfast–even on those super busy weekday mornings.

My kids love these! I love that they are easy to reheat and the tortilla still have a good flavor and texture to it even after defrosting!
I am also very picky about frozen foods. Lately I’ve found a few that are pretty tasty though! I’ll have to look for this El Monterey brand. I have yet to find a frozen burrito of any kind that I like. So thanks for the encouraging review!

I have not tried yet but I know my husband would love these!
Buying frozen breakfast burritos would never have occurred to me, either! It’s good to see that they do have varieties that don’t include pork (which I don’t eat) and that smaller sized packages are also available. Thanks for the review.
I recently purchased these Breakfast Burritos, using the $1 off coupon…they are very tasty!
I like breakfast burritos but haven’t tried this brand yet. I’m downright grumpy in the morning and don’t even get hungry until around 11 am. This would be a good meal for me because I don’t cook.
I think I would like the meat lovers burrito.
I always have these on hand.
I think I remember this in dinner style.
I’ve not tried these breakfast burritos, but holy Hannah I bet their good! I’m excited to try them and I’m loving the coupon! Thanks for sharing!
These really are the best! I probably have a dozen of them in the freezer right now.
Pre- made breakfast burritos are okay. I’m very picky when it comes to the way my eggs are cooked. They must be scrambled well, but not hard. cooked in a lot of margarine and two slices of American cheese melted in. I would try these though. I’m too lazy to cook eggs and clean up the mess.
I am always in a rush in the morning and rarely eat breakfast.
My son would love these for breakfast before school.
These do really look good and I’m gunshy about frozen items tasting good. I will try them though because you gave them such a high rating.
