Our Learning Moment, a KinderCare Open House, & a Sweepstakes!

“Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can; there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.” ― Sarah Caldwell
This is one of my favorite quotes, and now that I have children it’s something that stays at the front of my mind. Opportunities to learn are all around us, and to miss such an opportunity is a terrible waste. Children are naturally inquisitive and eager to explore the world around them, so making learning a part of your daily life is a piece of cake!
Just a couple of weeks ago, we were out for a drive when we noticed one of the biggest and prettiest rainbows I’ve ever seen. No, it was actually a double rainbow. It was so impressive that we pulled over so we could take a nice, long look at it and discuss with the kids why rainbows happen. (This is where it helps to have a husband who knows everything about everything!)
That isn’t actually our rainbow, but it’s pretty darn close to what we saw that day, only ours was even bigger and more vibrant. (Have you ever tried to take a picture of a rainbow? I’m convinced the people who do that successfully have magical powers.) Our rainbow was truly a wonder to behold, and it was easy to get excited about it. When your kids see you get really excited about something, they’re likely to get excited too, and they’ll be interested in learning more. Enthusiasm is contagious and it sticks. You just have to be okay with your house being wallpapered in rainbow artwork.
That’s just one example where we were presented with a chance to teach our children something new. If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice things like this pop up all the time. When we play in the backyard, we talk about the types of flowers and insects we see. When we go for a walk, we practice reading all of the signs we pass. When we’re emptying the dishwasher, we count each piece of silverware in Spanish as we put it away. There are so many ways to incorporate learning into your daily routine, which is great, because children want to learn!
Clearly, I take the education of my children seriously, and I think it’s so important that any school my children attend will take advantage of learning moments the same way I would. The best way to find out if a school’s mission is in line with yours is to go visit one and attend an open house if possible. KinderCare is holding Open House events at all of their learning centers across the country on August 13th, 2013, and guess what their theme is. Learning moments! KinderCare focuses on capturing these moments every day and making every moment a teachable one, and you can find out how by visiting your local neighborhood center and meeting the teachers and staff. Can’t make the Open House? No problem; you can also schedule a tour for a different time. You just might win one of 5 KinderCare Scholarships!

We are looking into putting our little girl into KinderCare for the upcoming school year. She’s 3 and needs to have a bigger learning spectrum, other than her room and our kitchen table.

I wish we had a Kindercare near us, that would have been great for my kiddos before they started school, they were however in preschool and to this day I still do learning activities with them. Not only is it fun for them, but at this age they’re soaking up everything. I’ll definitely mention Kindercare to my sister who lives in California, this would be a great program to enroll both her little ones.

We don’t have a KinderCare in our region, but Norton does go to preschool for two mornings a week during the school year. At home, we do a lot of reading, roughhousing, and building. It’s what works for us. 🙂
