Farmhouse Foods Review and Giveaway
My family loves to eat, how about yours? I like to feed them, how about you? As the feeder-in-chief of my household, I try to make the best decisions I can for my family, and this includes serving foods that are natural and nutritious. My most recent find is Farmhouse Foods, a San Francisco area company that makes natural seasoned rice and natural pasta and sauce products.
Farmhouse Foods are all natural and delicious with locally sourced ingredients. By now, you might know that I’m a label reader, and this company has been officially inducted into the “Brands with Ingredients that Don’t Frighten Melanie” club. You will not find any artificial ingredients, preservatives, or trans fats, nor do they add MSG to their products. There is no mystery about what you’re getting when you purchase Farmhouse pastas and rices. What a relief!
If you’re a carb junkie like I am, you can go right ahead and eat any of their foods as is. Of course, you should probably cook them first. That’s exactly what I did for my first Farmhouse meal. I started with their Parmesan Pasta, and yes, I totally ate the entire box all by myself.
It tastes as good as it looks, so I know you won’t think too badly of me for being so indulgent. I generally try to eat and serve more complete meals, so I promise that was the only time. My other meals were more balanced and even more delicious because of it.
For example, I took their Four Cheese Pasta, added some peas, carrots, and turkey breast strips, and voilà! We have an easy and complete meal that the whole family can eat. As tempted as I was to gobble down every last bite, I was kind enough to share this one. Each box of Farmhouse Foods pasta and rice includes suggestions on how to “make it a meal”, so you don’t have to spend too much of your busy day trying to come up with your own creations. You can pretend it was all your idea though; I promise not to tell.
This next one was probably my favorite way to use my Farmhouse Foods. I LOVE burritos, so I grabbed a recipe from the Farmhouse Foods site for Mexican Fiesta Burritos. I made a couple of minor modifications, like using shredded chicken in place of the ground meat and eliminating the corn (I was out of corn at the time and figured I didn’t need another starch in there anyway). This got rave reviews from the husband and was extra yummy as leftovers for lunch the next day.
We’ve enjoyed all of the Farmhouse Foods that we’ve tried, but there is one change I’d make to them if I could. Less sugar. I’m not sure why these types of foods need to contain sugar at all (which they all seem to), but if they must, I prefer as little as possible. Or none. Yeah, let’s go with none.
If you’re looking for easy to prepare foods with natural ingredients, then definitely give Farmhouse Foods a try. Head over to their Facebook page and grab a coupon to help get you started. You can find Farmhouse Foods in stores across the country, but if there isn’t one near you, you can also shop online. Go take a look; you’ll find that their prices are very reasonable.
One lucky reader is going to win a ten-box assortment of Farmhouse Foods! Open to US residents who are 18 and older. Ends 8/23/13. Good luck!
